Our FAQs are here to answer any questions you might have about studying through PRET.

How often are your courses run?

The English salesperson registration course is run fortnightly, English Full licence courses and Mandarin Full licence courses are run monthly at the Logan Central campus.

What is your policy relating to fees and charges?

Prior to the commencement of the nominated training course all fees and charges must be paid in full if the cost of the course is less than $1,500.

Where the course cost exceeds $1,500 the initial payment required will be $1,000 and the balance due after commencement of the course and must be paid in full prior to completion of the course.
All fees consist of a non-refundable administration fee of $100 and enrolment fees.

No course materials; login details; online access or enrolment confirmation will be available until payment has been received. Payments can be made by credit card; direct credit or cheque.

What is your policy on refunds and cancellations?

It is the policy of PRET Australia to ensure that all applications for refund of fees are considered.
All courses comprise non-refundable administration fee of $100 and enrolment fees.
The administration fee is non-refundable.

  • Up to 10 business days prior to commencement of training
    A full refund of enrolment fees is available up to ten (10) business days prior to the commencement of the training program. Cancellation of enrolment under these circumstances does not incur a penalty. However, the administration fee is non-refundable.
  • Between 5 and 10 business days prior to commencement of training.
    Where cancellation is made less than ten (10) business days prior to the commencement of the training program, the applicant will be eligible for eighty percent (80%) refund of enrolment fees. The administration fee is non-refundable. However, participants will be provided with an option to transfer to a course being offered at an alternate time.
  • Less than five (5) business days prior to commencement of training
    Where cancellation occurs less than five (5) business days prior to the commencement of the training program, no refund applies. However, participants will be provided with an option to transfer to a course being offered at an alternate time.
  • Once training has commenced in the course
    No refund is available to participants who leave before the completion of the course unless the participant can provide a medical certificate or show extreme personal hardship.

External students: For clarity, the course is deemed to have commenced when the link to remote desktop server giving access to course content has been issued to the student via email.

Can I defer or transfer enrolments?

In the event that the trainee is unable to commence the course originally chosen for enrolment, they may request a transfer to another scheduled course date. These requests must be made no later than 7 days prior to the commencement date of the original chosen enrolment. The request will be subject to availability and management discretion and will not be valid unless all fees and charges are paid in full. Enrolments may not be transferred to another trainee unless agreed by PRET Australia.

What do I need to sell real estate?

You need to successfully complete 7 units of competency then submit your statement of attainment, along with your completed application form and all other required documentation, to the Office of Fair Trading. This will allow you to be employed by a real estate agent in the sales or property management divisions.

What do I need to be a property manager?

You need to successfully complete 7 units of competency then submit your statement of attainment along with your completed application form and all other documentation required to the Office of Fair Trading. This will allow you to be employed by a real estate agent in the sales or property management divisions.

What do I need to sell real estate on a commission only basis?

Depending on your circumstances and experience, you may be engaged on a commission only basis by a real estate agent. You will generally require a Full Real Estate Agent Licence.

I have my salesperson registration and want to open my own agency, what do I need?

It will depend on when you did your course. Check the Office of Fair Trading website to see the units of competency required to apply for a Real Estate Agent licence.

How soon after I complete the course can I start selling?

Once you have successfully completed your course, we will issue your Statement of Attainment within 7 days. You may then apply to the Office of Fair Trading who advise 4 – 6 weeks for processing.

How big are the classes?

Our classes are currently limited to 15 students per class under the COVID19 Safe Plan. Smaller classes mean more trainer-student interactions.

Do I need to bring anything?

All training rooms are fitted with computer for each student. All assessment is completed on the computers. Work books and training tools are supplied so all you need to bring is pen and note paper and lunch. We supply tea, coffee and mints to keep your concentration levels up.

I have been working in the industry for more than twelve months, can I get recognition for my experience?

Anyone is able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). It is a systematic process used to assess learning gained inside and outside of formal education. Contact us for information on the types of evidence you could provide and the cost of applying for an RPL assessment pathway.

I haven’t worked in real estate for many years and have an expired licence. Can I get RPL’s?

It will depend on when you did your course. Check the Office of Fair Trading website to see the units of competency required to apply for a Real Estate Agent licence.

I want to do the course externally, how long will it take?

This depends entirely on yourself. Some factors that would determine the answer might be how much time you can dedicate to the course, how motivated you are, whether you have any experience in the industry and how well you work on your own. As a guide, the registration course is three, eight hour days with a trainer assisting students through the process. That is 24 hours with assistance on hand, so you could expect to do at least double that amount of time if you were working through the course at home.

Are the courses practical or mainly theoretical?

The courses are highly practical with students having access to a hypothetical real estate agency’s (Ace Realty) policies and procedures manual to use as reference throughout the course.
As an example on day 1 of the Salespersons Registration Certificate students:

  • Complete a prospecting plan.
  • Learn the theory behind property appraisals.
  • Critique property appraisals.
  • Undertake a property appraisal.
  • Role-play a listing presentation.
  • Complete the appropriate listing forms using ADL Forms.
  • Learn how to qualify buyers.
  • Prepare contracts using ADL Forms.
  • Role-play contract negotiations.
  • Learn what is required after the contract is signed until the contract is settled.
  • Learn basic trust accounting procedures and legal obligations.

Day 2 comprises similar tasks related to property management.
Day 3 applies the concepts to commercial and industrial real estate as well as business broking.

Do students have access to computers and real estate software packages?

Yes, each student has access to a computer with ADL Real Estate Forms pr ovide by ADL Software.
All assessment is completed on the computer.

Are students provided with feedback?

Throughout the assessment process students are provided with feedback and additional tasks where needed.

What happens if a student is really struggling with the assessment?

Facilitators will provide additional help when needed, stay back after hours to get it completed or the students can re-sit that day at no extra cost. For external students, we have facilitators available during office hours to help via email or over the phone.

Is there any assistance provided after the student completes the course?

Yes there is:

  • We run monthly free skills courses for your continuing professional developments.
  • Students can subscribe to our monthly newsletter.
  • Students can join exclusive graduates’ Facebook group and WeChat groups for trainer and peer support.
  • Access information under blog on our website.
  • They can attend a class free of charge to refresh their knowledge.
  • Completed assessment can be emailed in secure pdf format for reference.
